A Personal Mission
As someone from Bosnia and Herzegovina now living abroad, I carry a deep longing to see my homeland and its people prosper. This country possesses extraordinary natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality that often go unnoticed on the world stage. Krenimo.ba is my way of contributing to change that.
"Krenimo" means "Let's go" in Bosnian - an invitation to begin a journey of discovery through a land that deserves far more recognition than it receives.
I want this to remind my fellow Bosnians and Herzegovinians of the vast potential we hold. In a world where many try to pit us against one another for their own benefit, we must choose to rise above. Our differences are our strength. By highlighting the very best of our nation, I hope to spark the pride and unity necessary for us to build a better, brighter future together.
The Vision
Krenimo.ba showcases the power of modern technology to promote tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting its:
- Rich diversity - A crossroads of civilizations where East meets West
- National heritage - Ottoman bridges, Austro-Hungarian architecture, medieval fortresses
- Gastronomy - From cevapi to burek, a culinary tradition shaped by centuries of history
- Natural wonders - Emerald rivers, ancient forests, and mountains that rival the Alps
Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
This project started off purely as a concept, initiated in response to the tireless work of individuals who have dedicated themselves to portraying Bosnia and Herzegovina in its best light. However, at this point it has evolved into a fully functional platform aimed at inspiring tourism, civic engagement and potential economic growth of the local communities and businesses.
The vision is partly inspired by Robert Dacešin, whose passion for storytelling and promotion has redefined how the world sees BiH. It's also brought to life through the incredible artistry of other drone cinematographers and content creators whose footage captures the breathtaking beauty of the land. Their work is featured throughout the site with deep gratitude, proper attribution, and hopes for future cooperation.
Future Potential
While currently a concept, the platform has the potential to become a valuable resource for the 2026 tourism season and beyond. The vision includes dedicated pages for:
- Local tour guides and travel agencies
- Small businesses and artisan shops
- Eco-farms and rural tourism
- Antique shops and cultural experiences in each town
Pokrenimo - Civic Engagement
Pokrenimo ("Let's initiate") extends the mission beyond tourism into civic participation, empowering citizens to take an active role in their communities.
Built with Modern Tech on Free Tiers
This project demonstrates what's possible with modern development tools and free-tier cloud services:
- Frontend: React 18, Vite, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
- Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Edge Functions)
- Infrastructure: Vercel hosting, Turborepo monorepo
- Features: PWA support, i18n (Bosnian/English), Leaflet maps
The entire platform was developed over approximately two weeks initially using spec-driven development and AI-assisted "vibe coding" with Claude and Gemini. This included researching and curating YouTube content from channels showcasing the beauties of this often-unknown tourist destination. I went down the rabbit hole way to many times, watching youtube clips, exploring the rich history, culture, and natural wonders of Bosnia and Herzegovina about placed I didn't even know existed.
If krenimo.ba gains traction and is well-received, the next phase will focus on:
- Developing native mobile apps for iOS and Android using React Native
- Improving SEO to reach a broader international audience
- Migrating the tech stack to a more stable, performant, and secure infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform
